What is Environment?

Is everything that surrounds us. It can be living (biotic) or non-living (abiotic) things. Living things live in their environment, they constantly interact with it and adapt themselves to conditions in their environment.

Natural Environment is the one which comprises of all living and non-living things occuring naturally. Components of natural environment are ecological units which are natural systems such as soil and vegetation. Another component is Universal natural resources such as air and water.

Built Environment in social science is human-made environment that provide the setting for human activity, ranging in scale from buildings to parks. It is the space in which people live, work and recreate on a day-to-day basis.

Importance of Environment and a need for it’s conservation

Environment is a sole factor for the existence of life on earth. Without it there can be no life on earth. For healthy living of human beings it matters because it is the only home that human have, as it provides all the needs. Humanity’s entire life support system depends on well being of all environmental factors.
